Saturday, June 2nd at 10:00 AM – Chester Family Trails (day hike)

Meet near the Tunbridge Town Office Building. This hike will take us through the various trails so pack a lunch and bring plenty of water. These trails will take us to the top of Strawberry Hill with one of the most spectacular views in Tunbridge. We’ll walk to the stone arch which was built specially for a wedding.

Sunday, July 1st at 1:00 PM – Lucia Babcock Trek

Meet at the Tunbridge Central School. We will begin this hike on Monarch Hill Road and end on Whitney Hill Road. We will park cars at both the starting point and the destination. This hike will be just over two miles. Euclid Farnham will be leading this hike through the woods and down a 1930’s abandoned road to Whitney Hill to the #10 school house, past the eight-sided barn as he points out six or more historic homes.

Sunday, August 5th at 1:00 PM – Riddall Lot

This hike is still in the planning stages, but it will take us past the Riddall Lot where three members of the Riddall family are buried: John who was in the Revolutionary War, along with his wife and son. One other person was buried in 2010. The bench is believed to have been placed by a descendent of the Riddall family. There are no remaining Riddalls in town. They all left prior to the 1900’s. John arrived just after the Revolutionary War. Euclid has written a story on John Riddall which will be published in his next book. If you walk beyond the cemetery, the cellar hole of the Riddall home can be seen. There was a barn, but where it stood is unknown.

NOTE: All hikes are scheduled for the 1st Sunday of each month at 1:00 PM except for the June hike, which is scheduled for a Saturday at 10:00 AM.

After the film, there will be an update on current VT legislation by Sarah Buxton and Peg Elmer. Sarah, Vermont State Representative for South Royalton and Tunbridge, has spent the better part of the last two years working to highlight Vermont’s working landscape and our need to forge a more responsible energy plan for the state. Peg, Assistant Professor of Land Use Planning and Policy at Vermont Law School, was recently part of an advisory group to Vermont Gas on their proposed expansion in Vermont.

On the 2nd Sunday of each month, from 8 a.m. to noon, the Tunbridge Recreation Committee will host a breakfast at the Tunbridge Town Hall. This is an on-going event, so mark your calendars and keep coming back.

On February 25 from Noon to 9 p.m. the Tunbridge 8th grade class will sell concessions at the Winter Carnival at the school and host a movie night. The movies start at 6 pm. Come join the fun!

On March 17 the Tunbridge 8th grade class will host a district wide St. Patrick’s Day dance for grades 6-8. Concession sales start at 6:30 p.m. The dance runs from 7:00 – 9:30 p.m. All students must be signed in and out by their adult driver and fill out an emergency contact form to attend.
