The Tunbridge Public Library is proud to announce the 2012 Winter Evenings schedule. Events run from January through March January; 2nd & 4th Fridays at 7:00 pm unless otherwise noted. Below are the scheduled events:

A Valentine Cabaret

A cabaret dinner featuring fine (local) cuisine, and various performances by local musicians to benefit the Tunbridge Parsonage restoration fund will be held on February 11, 2012 at 6pm at the Tunbridge Central School.The cost is $30 per ticket. Our Town: A Snapshot of Tunbridge Residents in 2011

ArtSpace at the Tunbridge Public Library presents “Our Town: A Snapshot of Tunbridge Residents in 2011,” by photographers Laura DeCapua and Geoff Hansen. Over 30 framed photographs will be on display from Jan. 15 to Mar. 10, 2012. An opening public reception is to be held Sunday, Jan. 15, from 2-4 PM.

The photo show celebrates the people who call Tunbridge home. Taken this fall, the environmental portraits include farmers, artists, students, hunters, business owners and retirees. A collection of scenics of the town — in its 250th year — are also included in the show.

Laura DeCapua is the youngest of eight children and hails from a small town in the Midwest. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and her Master’s Degree in Visual Communication. Laura’s photography career began 15 years ago and her work has been published in numerous magazines and newspapers internationally, nationally and locally. Laura and her family have called Tunbridge their home for 10 years. More information about Laura’s work can be found at lauradecapua.com.

Geoff Hansen has been a photographer and editor at the Valley News for the past 22 years. His photography has appeared in a dozen books, including “The Joy of Keeping Chickens” and “Living with Pigs.” He is proud to be part of the Tunbridge community, where he has lived with his family since Oct. 2000. The library is located on Route 110 in Tunbridge village, across from the Post Office, about five miles north of Route 14.

The library’s hours are Monday and Wednesday, 3-8 p.m., Thursday and Friday, 3-6 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call librarian Jean Wolfe at 802-889-9404 for more information.

The Saturday Sewing Circle Upates

The Saturday Sewing Circle will be meeting December 3 from 8am-noon at the Tunbridge Central School library. Parking is available at the rear of the building for easy access. We will continue work on the 250th commemorative quilt tops.

Our fun project for the next few months will be aprons — fabric and patterns will be available so bring cool ideas! Our scheduled meeting dates for the new year are January 14, February 4, March 3 (our all-day lunch meeting), April 7, May 5, and June 2. Stop by and stay as long as you are able, if you haven’t stopped by before, make an effort to check it out. No cost, no fuss and a good time.

Tunbridge Fuel Assistance Committee Annual Meeting

Tunbridge School Club Halloween Party!

The Tunbridge School Club is sponsoring a free Halloween Party on October 29, 2011 from 6:00 – 8:00pm at the Tunbridge Central School.

Students in grades K-6 are invited to come play ghoulish games, dine on spooky treats and make creepy crafts.

Each child in a costume will receive a $5 certificate good for a book purchase at the Scholastic Book Fair.

Volunteers are needed for turning the gym into a haunted setting from 11am-5pm and for take down at 8pm. Contributions of spooky treats gladly accepted by 5:30pm. Donations welcome.

Recreation Committee & TCS 8th Grade Class Monthly Breakfast & Bake Sale!

On the 2nd Sunday of each month, from 8 a.m. to noon, the Tunbridge Recreation Committee and the Tunbridge Central School’s 8th Grade Class will host a breakfast and Bake Sale at the Tunbridge Town Hall. This is an on-going event, so mark your calendars and keep coming back.

Potluck Dinner with Author, Scholar and Humorist, Frank Bryan

Author, scholar, and humorist, Frank Bryan, Professor of Political Science at University of Vermont, and author of such works as Real Democracy, The Vermont Papers: Recreating Democracy on a Human Scale, and Real Vermonters Don’t Milk Goats will speak at 7:15pm with a potluck beginning at 6pm on October 28, 2011

Chicken Pie Supper for Tunbridge Central School

Saturday, October 22, the Tunbridge School Club will host a Chicken Supper at the Tunbridge Central School with proceeds to benefit students at Tunbridge Central School. Settings at 5, 6 and 7pm. $8 per person. Children 5 and under, FREE!

Includes: Chicken Pie or Vegetarian Potpie, Mashed Potatoes, Squash, Coleslaw, Cranberry Sauce, Beverages and Homemade Pies.

Reservations Encouraged, so please call 802-889-3741. Walk-ins welcome at the 6 & 7pm settings. Takeout is also available.

Everybody Wins! Reading Mentoring Program Orientation

Tunbridge Central School (TCS) is looking for volunteer reading mentors to spend one hour per week with students as a part of the Everybody Wins! (EW!) reading mentoring program. To find out more about becoming a volunteer, please come to the new mentor orientation at the TCS library on Thursday, September 22, from 11-11:55am.

The Upper Valley Business and Education Partnership collaborates with Everybody Wins! Vermont to facilitate this successful literacy program which encourages enthusiasm and a positive attitude towards reading. Adult volunteers from the community share good books and conversation one-on-one with elementary school students for one lunch hour per week.

Volunteers read on Mondays or Thursdays, from 11-11:55am in the TCS Library, starting the first week in October.
